In 2023 I gave myself a shopping limit of 5 items of clothing for the whole year. I lasted all of 7 months before that went straight out the window.
This year, to be a little kinder with myself, I have committed instead to approaching my desires with full awareness of the drivers behind them. The idea is to weed out all dopamine-deficit driven impulses. So far so good, I’ve only bought two things this quarter. One of them a brand new, baby pink issey miyake top, thrifted from a charity shop with a cachet-ed postcode (iykyk).
I am not actively shopping this season, or any season at all, but a girl can still dream, right? Presenting to you:
The Dandelion Tiger’s Spring Style Moodboard,
curated in part with inspiration from this publication’s eternal muse and resident artiste: my baby niece, Kalia Chimi Sear
Brands: Shu Shu/Tong, Susan Fang, Cecilie Bahnsen, St Agni, House of Dagmar, Prada
So much fun!!
I have been really taken lately with the collections that emerging east asian designers are presenting. At both Shu Shu/Tong and Susan Fang there is a wonderful sense of playfulness and vibrant creativity in silhouette, print and colour that is so refreshing, a bit camp even. It’s an invitation to just play a little, to make getting dressed an exercise in art and expression, the way a child might approach it. Peek Kalia’s round flower sunnies and floofy pink dress.
Lots of florals for spring from Shu Shu/Tong and Susan Fang, but in a way that actually is groundbreaking. Miranda Priestly, ma’m, are you taking notes?
Q1 Life Review
Unbelievable how quickly we are approaching the second quarter of 2024 already. In an effort to keep myself in check, my list of wins and could-have-done-better’s in Q1:
Wins
Progressing well against goals, projects moving along and The Dandelion Tiger is growing (thank you!), getting better at photography, sticking to weekly piano lessons
Made zero impulsive purchases, thank God
Limited negative self-talk and getting better with handling imposter syndrome
Did not waste any time energy or attention on people who do not deserve it
80% emotional and mental resilience against people with egos bigger than the sun
Recognised that my own ego is bigger than the sun sometimes and can be as fragile as a peach too
Reading lots more (books, substacks, magazines, cereal boxes), which means doomscrolling time has decreased
Losses (could have done better’s)
Screen time still pretty absurd
Barely practicing any piano outside of lessons
Still very nervous and impatient if not getting everything done in one weekend
Made myself vomit twice because I ate too much and felt guilty
Completely neglecting social life at work, pretty much been hiding from my coworkers, not worked through why yet
Procrastination levels still not come back down into earth’s stratosphere yet
Not calling grandma often enough :(
Looking ahead, On my mind for Q2:
